Hallmark movie Review: Pumpkin Pie Wars

Hallmark movie Review: "Pumpkin Pie Wars"

By Daniel Rassy

My wife, Jamie, and I have been on our Hallmark journey for almost a year now, watching one movie together every night at dinnertime. Most of the time, they lift our spirits, make us feel cozy, and remind us of the sweetness in love and life. Pumpkin Pie Wars was our latest pick, and while it wasn’t our all-time favorite, it still had plenty of charm and some genuinely heartwarming moments.

The story is set during the fall harvest season with a pumpkin pie contest at the center of the drama. Years earlier, two best friends had a falling out and ended up opening rival bakeries. Fast forward ten years, and their kids—Casey and Sam—end up competing in the bake-off after circumstances push them both into the spotlight.

Casey and Sam strike a secret deal to help one another. Watching them sneak around and slowly fall in love was sweet. Their playful flirting, little glances, and romantic dinners gave the movie a lighthearted spark. The chemistry between them worked well, and the acting overall was solid.

The bake-off itself was fun and friendly. The music was upbeat, the competition didn’t feel stressful, and even when they pretended to quarrel for show, it came across as good-natured.

That said, there were moments I didn’t love. The moms’ ongoing feud got a bit heavy with drama, gossip, and arguments, which pulled me out of the cozy feeling. There was even a moment of betrayal, which made things feel uneasy. But to the movie’s credit, this all led to a heartfelt truce and some genuine reconciliation that brought everyone together in the end.

The romance had a satisfying payoff, including a kiss that wasn’t interrupted or rushed—something Hallmark sometimes does. And while the small-town cozy vibe wasn’t as strong as in other Hallmark movies, there were still nice touches of fall leaves, pumpkin carving, and harvest colors that gave it seasonal warmth.

The ending surprised us—it was a tear jerker and left us with a full heart. Even with the extra drama, the story wrapped up in a way that was sweet, uplifting, and worth the watch.

Our verdict? Pumpkin Pie Wars isn’t the coziest Hallmark fall movie out there, but it has enough charm, sweetness, and heartfelt moments to make it worth curling up with on a cool autumn night.
